RevoluGen has developed the Fire Monkey Nucleic Acid Isolation and Purification (NAIP) kit.

Fire Monkey is the world’s only spin column kit that, counter-intuitively, despite the very high g-force used as with any standard spin column process, extracts HMW-DNA with an average of 100kb or above in a user-friendly format in approximately 1 hour.  The extract does not require overnight incubation and it is immediately ready to use for long and short read sequencing as well as other molecular assay applications.

In 2018 Oxford Nanopore Technologies (ONT) compared the Fire Monkey to Qiagen’s QIAamp and Genomic Tip and demonstrated that Fire Monkey produced the highest N50 values in a fraction of extraction time compared to Qiagen’s kits (Figure 1).

In a recent inter-laboratory evaluation of HMW-DNA extraction methods for long-read sequencing (Devonshire et al 2025) the Fire Monkey (FM) kit was compared to the Qiagen Genomic Tip (GT), and Gentra Puregene (PG) and the PacBio Nanobind (NB) kits.  FM generated the highest Oxford Nanopore Technologies (ONT) N50 values and was the only of the 4 kits for which no overnight room temperature incubation step was applied to fully dissolve DNA (Figure 2).
